Blender was originally designed to be used in a single window on a computer. As features are added, it becomes a lot to keep on one monitor. Here’s how to work in the same Blender file on two computer monitors at once.

Add a Second Window to Blender UI

To create a second window in Blender, go to the top menu and choose the “Window” dropdown. From there, choose “New Window.”

A new Blender window will appear on the monitor. This window can be dragged to a second monitor.

The second window will be a single editor. We can change the editor by clicking the editor icon in the top left corner of the window.

The second window will be synced with the main window and the same file will be loaded in both. What you do in one window will update across all windows in real time.

We can repeat this step for as many windows as we want. Multiple windows use more of your computer’s memory, so keep that in mind.

I have a two-monitor setup in my home office and use Blender on both monitors all the time.

I will often have my shader editor open on one monitor to give me an entire screen space to work in while I preview changes on another monitor.

One thing I haven’t figured out yet…

When we have multiple 3D viewports open, you can’t have one be in Edit Mode and one be in Object Mode. Changing the mode in any 3D viewport will change the mode in all of them.
